One can tell he is in the friendzone when she says "you're too important to me, I couldn't risk our friendship for a relationship." Whether or not she is telling the truth becomes irrelevant at this point. If anything to that effect is said, one can tell he's been sentenced to an indefinite term in the friendzone. Note that escaping the friendzone (which is heavily guarded) is very difficult and even if one manages to escape, the relationship will be forever marred and altered.

Being stuck in the friendzone means that you aren't able to have more than a friendly relationship with that special someone you are attracted to. However, it is wrongly perceived as a state that only males can go through. As a female, I can assure you that women can also be friendzoned.
