poor couture

When poor, trashy people try really hard to dress in what they think is fashionable and cool... But it's hilariously bad, but entertaining.
This guy on "Life After Lockup" wearing the giant sunglasses, scarf, and fingerless gloves is poor couture.

poor man’s lunch

Exactly how it sounds. When you’re a broke college student and can’t afford to pay for food, so you put some free items from the student center food court together and call it a meal.
What did you eat today?

I snagged saltine crackers from the student center Quiznos and a few sauces from Chick-Fil-A right next to it to dip the crackers in.

Damn, that’s a poor man’s lunch.

Yeah, looking forward to my ice soup for dinner.

Palo Alto poor

This is a term used in the SF Bay Area / Silicon Valley to convey that you’re probably making a solid living at $300+ k per year but are still considered “poor” (& lower-middle class) in this area.
My daughter works as a cardiologist at Stanford, but still calls herself “Palo Alto poor” because she can’t afford to buy a house in the area.
