Let it be noted that maintaining ones environment is an implicit sub-set of supporting and developing the economy. Prioritizing the environment beyond the interests of the economy destroys the means by which the environment would be maintained.
Empirically the environmentally interested have empowered the state ( the entity that does the most harm to the environment ) to use force against the economy.
