1. a sub-genre of rock music, originated in the 1980s in DC. some emo artists include (but are not limited to) owl city, boys like girls, all american rejects, and jimmy eat world.

2. a style of people. there are many stereotypes, including but not limited to: wearing black 24/7 (there not goth!), worshipping satan, cutting themselves all the time (some emos DONT cut themselves...they just cry), and wanting to die.

Emo

Emotive Hardcore is an offshoot from hardcore punk which formed in the late 80s and was played throughout the 90s. The term "emo" was coined to such bands like Rites of Spring and Embrace and other bands with a more melodic hardcore sound and expressive lyrics, although some later bands experimented with a softer indie alternative sound as well. You can also say it was a term to describe the "sound" of the DC area of the time. However, if you ask any of the members, they would highly disapprove of this term and most likely mock it.

Emo is not dying your hair black, piercing your lip, and it's certainly not cutting your wrist, that's just a trend. Emo is a music genre that started in the 90s and ended in the 90s.

A person that wears a lot of black clothes paints nails black wears black makeup has hair over one side of their face not always depressed not always angry most are not shy bands-bring me the horizon, black veil brides, falling in reverse , crown the empire, fall out boy , my chemical romance, sleeping with sirens, saywecanfly,etc . Emo people do not have age limits and we do smile

someone you thinks they have issues and blames their parents. they believe in dark things and wear very goth things and are like goths to the power of 100. //suicidal emos (usually the "Real emos" tend to cut themselves out of stress hoping to find a certain relief. // Some people refer to some emos as fags, as they wear, short jet black hair, tight jeans, tall and skinny, hair over either the right or left eye at either a straigh and or diagonal style, usually wear vans/chucks and wear eyeliner, have piercings on their body and wear band shirts. #1. Emo is a a genre of music...Like punk and rock
#2. The emo look. Fringed hair that's short and spikey at the back (Not always.) Tight jeans. T-shirts with names of rock bands. Chuck Taylor all-stars (Shoes) And their style is sometimes mixed up with the goth or punk looks.
#3. Well, unfortunaly, most morons think that being emo is about being extremely depressed and suicidal. Two words for you: NOT TRUE.
