Often, confronting the latest Metal Gear model is one of the final challenges of each game, These things have been introduced in Metal Gear Solid, these things are pretty self explanatory.

To put it simply its just a Big Mech Armed with Guns and Nuclear powered Rockets, Even nukes in some cases.

They are commonly shown with a Huge High Frequency blade to battle other Metal gears.
