A General Rope Technician (Or GRT) is a term used to describe an individuals who specializes in rope manipulation and maintenance on any naval vessel as a profession or pastime.
They are the lowest possible naval rank.

Sea dogs
Seamen
Sailors
Cadets
Seafarer
Mariner
Salt
Tar

1st low ranking sailor - I have no significant rank, yet would like a fancy title.
2nd low ranking sailor - How about General Rope Technician?
1st low ranking sailor - I now have a misplaced sense of self importance!
