When a heterosexual, cisgender male is incorporated into a gender-queer, queer, female friend group burdened with the patriarchal wrongdoings experience by the other members of the friend group despite not being associated with the male majority. For a man to fall under the displacement effect, he can only be incorporated into a singular group.

The Coldplay effect is named for the band Coldplay, and is used to describe something that is iconic and respected, but generic and only the favourite thing of a small number of people.
