Bureau of Labor Statistics

(US GOVERNMENT) bureau within the federal government of the United States; part of the Department of Labor. Measures unemployment, hours worked, hourly wages, inflation, productivity, and so on.

The Department of Labor was created as a result of the NLRA (1935), which gave workers the right to organize.
Yesterday the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) published its monthly report of hours worked. This revealed that, while employees are working more hours, unemployment has not declined and wages continue to decline.

AP Statistics

A laughably easy class, most who take it are those too afraid to take calc so yeah, 90% of the class are math-impaired idiots. The purpose of stats is to be a joke class like apes. The tests are taken directly from the internet so enter in a few key words the night before and you already have the answer key. A very large majority of the class cheats on the tests which may be the reason for the incredibly high averages aside from its "difficulty". And plus, there's no homework. The only drawback is that the class does almost no preparation for the AP exam in May so unless you actually treat the class like a real one (which is totally unnecessary for the class itself) you're basically screwed.
Typical AP Statistics conversations:
Student A: OMG that test was so hard! How did you get a perfect score on it?
Student B: It's online...I typed in "chi-squared regression test" on google last night and I found the answer key..."
Student A: sh*t

Student C: I'm wondering if I should take stats instead of calc. How was the class? How did you do on it?
Student D: I got A's both semesters but I got a 2 on the exam...

baseball statistics

A group of many different things used to compare baseball players. This can range from batting average, Homeruns and Strikeouts to advanced statistics such as WAR, OPS, and VORP.
Person 1: "That player struck out again! He sucks!!"
Person 2: " While me might not have done well today, when you look at the player's Baseball statistics, he's actually a pretty good player."

Theory of Parameters and Reference Frames of Statistics

A meta‑statistical framework arguing that any statistical claim is only meaningful relative to a specific set of parameters (what is measured, how, at what scale) and a specific reference frame (the population, time period, and context). Changing either can change the result entirely, yet statistics are often presented as absolute. This theory demands that every statistical assertion be accompanied by its parameters and reference frame, and that comparisons across frames be made with extreme caution. It explains why contradictory studies can both be “true” – they operate in different frames.
Theory of Parameters and Reference Frames of Statistics Example: “He quoted a crime statistic without mentioning it was from 1990, in a small town, counting only reported felonies. The theory of parameters and reference frames reminds us: no statistic is context‑free.”

Theory of Parameters and Reference Frames of Data

A framework that treats data not as raw, objective facts but as products of specific choices: what to include/exclude, how to clean and code, what measurement scale to use, and what reference frame (time, location, demographic) to adopt. Different parameters and frames produce different data from the same underlying phenomena. This theory opposes data essentialism – the belief that data speak for themselves – and insists that understanding data requires understanding the decisions that shaped them. It is foundational for critical data studies.

Example: “The company claimed their dataset was ‘objective,’ but the theory of parameters and reference frames showed they had excluded non‑English users and filtered out night‑time activity. The data was real; the frame was engineered.”

calculating the mass of someones life time shit production based on their diet and health
Well... I know a man his age (76) should have produced about 24,320lbs (11,030 kg) of shit in his lifetime so far. If we convert those 76 years into days we have 27759 days. Now it is normal and healthy to have a bowel movement anywhere between three times a week to three times a day, but my dad always ate dinner at the same time and used the bathroom approximately once a day. Therefore we can conclude that he has shat approximately 27759 times in his lifetime, maybe a little less or a little more. If we divide those 24,320lbs he has dropped in his lifetime with the days he has lived, we should get 0,87lbs which is 0,39kg and therefore we can take a guess and say that his last shit weighted about 0,87 pounds or 0,39kg. Now the average weight of a human log is around 1/4 of a pound to 1 pound (or 0,11kg to 0,45kg). With this information we can tell that the turd was a little on the skinny side but he is healthy and probably doing well. This is shitistics.
