Hack the Gibson

Hack the Gibson, is a phrase which originated from the movie Hackers, and is generaly used either with some degree of compliment to another person, or as a sarcastic term directed at those who request the steriotypical 'How to Hack' posts, usually an unskilled, unwilling to learn 'script kiddie'.

Positive: Man, that server was so locked down that it was like trying to Hack the Gibson.

Negative:
Script Kiddie: I wan7 70 b3 a 1337 h4x0r!11!! S0M3ONE T34CH ME TO HAX0R PLS!!111!!!

Real Hacker: Start by trying to Hack the Gibson.

The Hacker Ethic

Hacker code of morality that was originally formed by the MIT hackers in the late 1950s to the late 1960s and articulated by Steven Levy in his book HACKERS: HEROES OF THE COMPUTER REVOLUTION. The creed is as follows:

1)Always yield the Hands-On Imperative! Access to computers-- and andything else which might teach you about the way the world works-- should be unlimited and total.
2) All information should be free.
3) Mistrust Authority-- Promote Decentralization.
4) Hackers should be judged by their hacking, not bogus criteria such as degrees, age, race, or position.
5) You can create art and beauty on a computer.
6) Computers can change your life for the better.
While many of the 1960s hackers claim that modern hackers have rejected this code, it has actually strongly influenced all hackers for the last thirty years.

Hachine Gun

When someone's laugh sounds like a machine gun and the surrounding friends bust out their air machine guns until said laughter ceases, typically perpetuating the laughter and the air machine guns!

The joke was so good, she busted out her hachine gun, leaving collateral damage everywhere.

toggle hack

When someone cheats in a game such as Counter-Strike, where they use the fire button to activate the hack and once the fire button is let go the aimbot is turned off. Began when some nub out there learned how to bind an aimbots on/off switch to a single button.
