Why .999~ = 1
x = .999~
so 10x = 9.999~
9.999~ - .999~ = 9
but 10x - x = 9x
so 9x = 9, x = 1
Thus, x = .999~ = 1
x = .999~
so 10x = 9.999~
9.999~ - .999~ = 9
but 10x - x = 9x
so 9x = 9, x = 1
Thus, x = .999~ = 1

SCP-999 Is an orange colored jelly that can adapt to any surface. It is a safe SCP and a very friendly one. It will approach any human or living creature and hug it, touch it while making high pitched love noises, I guess. It will follow you for a certain amount of time, depending on how long have you stayed with it. Basically, it is a love bug.

Guy 1- Hi, my name is Jerry(followed by some cheesy pick up line), you think I could get your number and we can hook up some time?
Girl 1- Ok, sure, it's 999 nevermind.(followed by a slight head shake and chuckle.)

a number equal to 1.
The reason for this, barring any childish attempts at a "proof" is that any two numbers have an infinite number of numbers between them, and there are zero numbers between .999 recurring and 1 -- which means they are equal.
