Parental duty

Like childcare but for your parents: Sitting around all day with your parents who came visiting you.
If you're at uni and having to explain to them why you don't have a girlfriend, why you don't have good grades, why you don't have a part-time job.

And if you're married already you send the day helping your dad with his garden and your mom in the kitchen why avoid the question "So why don't you have kids yet?"
John: Hey Tom, you comin' out tonight for Lizzy's birthday party? We're out to a nice restaurant before the club at 8pm
Tom: Nah bro, I can't this time. Got parental duty
John: Shit! Good luck with that

Example 2:
Chris: The whole office is going to Disney on Saturday, will Marianne also be coming?
Alex: Nah, she's got parental duty. She's taking her mom grocery shopping, and then for a haircut
Chris: Sucks to be her

Example:
Person 1: Hey, did you get the new Call Of Duty game?
Person 2: No, my mom says that violent video games cause violence in real life.
Person 1: That's just a parent scare, it's not true.

Parent-Zoned

A close/best friend that still loves you, but no longer needs you for support, entertainment, guidance, affection, etc., and gradually stops involving you in their life/seeking you out in the same way or for the same reasons.

They still love you and will still answer/respond at the same rate when you reach out to them, but will no longer contact you on their own unless it's a special occasion, an emergency, or they need something specific.

Much like how children and young adults stop wanting to spend time with their parents and would rather spend time with their friends instead.

Being parent-zoned means you've essentially been replaced as a friend but without any malice or loss of love / emotional importance.
He still treats me with a lot of love and respect and is always there when I need him, but he doesn't call or text nearly as much as he used to. His personal situation hasn't changed, guess I've just been parent-zoned.

Parental Footprint

The term for how much of an impact you have on your parent's lives and money. Most poignant when living with parents at an age where you really should have moved out by now.
Derived from 'Carbon Footprint'
Guy 1: "Man, I can't believe you had to move back in with your parents"
Guy 2: "Yeah it's not so bad though, I have a well paid job and I cook my own meals so my parental footprint is pretty small"
