A steryotype for teenagers.
Emos generally have died black hair that covers part of the face (mainly the eyes) and wear tight fitting clothes.
The word 'emo' is short for 'emotional' and generally refers to someone of roughly the above description who 'is not afraid to' express their feelings of hatred about the world. For example, a person who openly feels wonderful about society is not emo. An emo feels hard done by and skeptical about society, and some become so depressed by their own dark thoughts that they try to 'end the nightmare' and commit suicide. The most comonly thought of way of doing this is slitting their wrists.
Some emos go a step further in expresing their feelings by being open about their sexual preferences, see 'emo boy kissing' for more info.

1) A person that can usually be identified by loads of dark clothing, side-swept bangs that often cover an eye (or both), Chuck Taylor sneakers that may be written on with sharpies, and often times dark eyeliner and facial piercings for both genders. Can also refer to someone that is depressed or has resentment to society, or even inflicts harm upon themselves.
2) A load of bullshit.
3) Simply a name given to music (that is generally angst-y and may contain screaming and crying) so that it may be sorted.
4) To act in such a way that is appalling due to its depressing nature.
((Or even a mixture of any of the above))

Get the Emo mug.A term once used to refer to a certain style of music in the late 90s, then to a teenage stereotype in the early 2000s, nowadays used to make insecure people defensive (hence the many definitions trying to dissuade people from its common usage). For the teenage stereotype, "emo" connotates angst and nihilism; a fetishization of life's unfairness or meaninglessness; Reddit atheism without a god to denounce. This may be accompanied by attitudes and appearances reflecting a teenager's expected capacity for such extreme ideas.
