Emo 

Emo is a music scene started in the mid '80s, as an offshoot of punk. Emo is, despite stereotypes, not all about cutting and suicide and crying. Emo is simply EMOtional. It's a music genre, and a state of mind.

People often hate on Emo because it's not "normal" or because it's cooler than them. These people are not cool. If someone insults you because you are a true emo, just ignore them or make a witty, intelligent comeback.

1. a sub-genre of rock music, originated in the 1980s in DC. some emo artists include (but are not limited to) owl city, boys like girls, all american rejects, and jimmy eat world.

2. a style of people. there are many stereotypes, including but not limited to: wearing black 24/7 (there not goth!), worshipping satan, cutting themselves all the time (some emos DONT cut themselves...they just cry), and wanting to die.

Emo 

The term "Emo" is used as counterculture; it is an abreviation of the word "emotional". Emo it's defining not only an attitude, but also a fashion that are coming from emocore (emo music). Emocore is a combination between hardcore and punk music which was very popular in Washington DC in the late 80's. The emo culture continued to develop between '90 and '00, reaching the height of its popularity today.

whiny adolescent kid who has no problems and cuts themselves. they suck and listen to some of the worst "music" that has ever been called music. they're not in any way gay cos they'd never make the cut with their greasiness, poor fashion and music sense and massive depression. dont call them gay. i will beat you. fortunately they don't much exist except in America these days

Emo 

Some of you are totally wrong about being emo. I'm emo, I would know. I'm not emo because I think it's cool, I'm a very expressive person, artsy, and I've been emo/punk for most of my life, you guys are ignorant. Yes, many of us are from well-off families who don't understand, but that's our choice. You're stereotyping people you don't even know. I have tons of friends (some who are very popular), I don't cut myself, I'm perfectly happy! There's so many more misconceptions... okay, maybe my hair is half pink, maybe I wear tighter jeans then the rest of you, maybe I listen to less popular music because it's way better than listening to a bleach blond tramp who forgot to wear underwear! It's our choice, and you shouldn't judge. That's like asking a football player why he plays football. So stupid, so trivial, so ignorant.

THE REAL DEFENITION

THE MUSIC- emotive hardcore- was an offshoot of hardcore music charegterised by lyrics with deeper darker emotions/ topics. People who enjoyed this genere of music were called Emos

THE LIFESTYLE- Today we have people who call themselves emo- The music created the emo lifestyle- thus emo kids Emos are people who listen to emotive music and embrace a specific style- Usualy envolving- wearing all black/darker colors- side swept hair over 1 eye- Heavy eyeliner- and expresion via music writing songs poetry ect. There are no specific guide lines to emo.

1-All emos cut/ self mutilate?
Not all emos cut- there are always crazies in the mix but not all emos cut themselves- cuting has nothing to do with emo

2-Emos are always sad?
Emos are usualy more sensetive than average and express their emotions in their own way. But emos are not always sad Hapyness is an emotion 2 Emos can smile laugh and have a good time like evrybody else Most are just shy

3-Emos are all just posers seeking atention?
Emo is a steriotype- people runing around showing you their cuts, crying, saying "im so emo" Are posers trying to fit a steriotype to be cool But there are people "Real emos" who live the lifestyle, love the music, and expres their emotions bechause its who they are the way they are these people are not posers- they dont try to be anything other than themselves and are great people/ loyal frends
