soap opera effect

A term used to describe the hyper-realistic look of video content that can occur due to high frame rates or certain video processing settings, making everything appear overly smooth and artificial—similar to the visual style of daytime soap operas. This effect can detract from the intended cinematic experience.
I recently picked up all five seasons of The Twilight Zone on Blu-ray. It had been remastered in HD producing a crystal clear and perfect picture, but it was too clean. It was noticeable the show was filmed on a set and at times gave a 'soap opera effect'.

soap opera glasses

A way to discribe the interst you take in something, the way you might take interest in a soap opera can explain how you view some other interaction. It could be overhearing a conversation, watching others from a window, following a tabloid publication or a public personality. Given how the platform for communication has become the enormity that it now is, our ability to view has amplified and those sqare eyes that those of us were promised if we sat too close or watched too much TV has become a thing of truth as the world is viewed through a screen. The affluent would view their theatrical experiences from the boxes through opera glasses. The multi platfomed entertainment/media allows us to peer through into places denied us in prior times. So our ability to view life down the lense and how we view what we see in a certain respect can be viewed as seeing through or wearing soap opera glasses
