Ed Roberts, the father of the independent living movement for people with disabilities who was himself a polio survivor who used a vent, was once asked what term he perferred for describing people with disabilities. He said Pabu. People All Bungered Up. It made its way into the culture and you can now buy a t-shirt bearing the simple moniker from Wheelchair Boy Jeans and the Nth degree.
I am pabu, and my friends are mostly pabu as well. Pabus tend to love wheels and our culture even has its own food: drive thru.

That girl that goes out of her way to make everyone happy, making sure everyone is okay?
If you need them they’ll be there, if you need help, they’ll help you. They put everyone before themselves and easily make friends. But behind that beautiful smile, is so much pain..and anguish.
The constant fear of rejection or criticism, the constant loathing for getting up in the morning. A history riddled with sadness, and yet. They smile still.
All to ensure that their friends and family, their loved ones don’t feel bad for them, or get hurt, because they don’t think their worth the trouble.
