It delivers positive pressure on the lungs, and puts air into the lungs via a facemask, mouthpiece, or endotracheal/tracheostomy tube adpater, and then once the positive pressure is in the lungs it swiches to negative pressure thus simulating a cough.
1. A cough assist is kind of like a suction machine, but a suction suction machine has to have a tube that goes into the lungs to get the stuff out.
