In the Midwest, particularly Minnesota, the word ‘fine’ when used like “Yea I’m fine” or “Oh that’s fine” doesn’t mean that something is truly fine, it translates roughly to “nothing is going right and everything is shitty”

The word people tell there friends or family to hide the fact that they’re crying at night because they can’t do it in front of people because they don’t want people to think their weak. They say “I’m fine” because they want to be the strong friend people go to for advice and make if them feel happy if their feeling depressed.
