Time-Area of Effect (TAoE)

noun

When an event messes with your energy or mood before and after it actually happens.
Inspired by video game “area of effect” attacks, except this one hits across time instead of space.

Example:
If I have to go to work on Tuesday, I’m already tired on Monday and still exhausted on Wednesday.
That’s the time-area of effect (TAoE) of my job.

Usage:
“Bro, that meeting has such a huge TAoE, I can’t enjoy my weekend.”
“Vacations have a positive TAoE. The good vibes start before you even leave.”

The positive effect a new coach has on his football team, immediately following his appointment.

A football team appoint a new coach after a run of poor form where the previous coach has either been sacked or has resigned from his position.

The mere change of coach is enough to turn the teams fortunes around, instantly. This is known as the new coach effect.

This phenomenon, also known as the Streisand Effect, is driven by the impulse to engage in forbidden actions, leading to increased interest and curiosity. For example, a ban on a movie can generate more interest than if the movie were widely available.

The Caligula effect was in full swing when the school banned that controversial book, making everyone want to read it even more.
