When somebody thought their slaves were being abducted during the night, they would threaten the suspect with a "good ol ankle shiving." However, very few instances have been recorded where the person actually went through with the stringing and shiving. It was much easier to just shoot them. Now-a-days this phrase is used on the computer voice-chat program "Discord." When a person wishes for another person to be "banned" or "kicked" from a Discord "server," that person declares that the moderator(s) or owner(s) should "string em up and shiv their ankles," essentially, "Ban this scrublord from the discord because he is stupid."
