You can use it in any term. It suits many.
No other type of food can replace the meaning.
Origin was from a clumsy mistake of the tongue. Japanese are damn bastards for making the language so difficult, it's often to have this term slip out of your mouth while speaking, or even singing Japanese.
The mistake has been occurring more and more lately, and it has been spreading further around the globe. From this point, it has transformed part of the internet. This term now can be used in any form. Such as a death threat or a greeting. It can be anything you can think of in your mind and much more.

A piece of reed that resembles an ear of corn still in the stalk as it floats on a river and is mistakenly eaten by hungry river people or rednecks.
The redneck river people were so hungry, they filled their floating tubes full of river corn for an afternoon snack.

A trendy shopping centre in Leeds, U.K. often perceived as "scary" because it is a hang out place for moshers, goths and emos - however this is not strictly true. The people outside aren't trouble-makers or thugs - they are friendly youths just doing what they enjoy. If you step inside, you will notice the sophisticated shops and stalls create a lovely atmosphere, rather the opposite to what people expect after seeing the outside.
"I can't find anything to wear for the party.."
"Try at the corn exchange there's always great, fashionable and alternative clothes there!"

When your partner, after a slow removal of undergarments, squats down over your least favorite team jersey, that you chose to wear for this special occasion, and forcefully lays a leaning tower of stool on the numbers of said top. Like that of a dominate alpha ape, your partner then grabs the tennis racket of his or her choice and smashes the steaming tower down while offering 3 different choices of syrup....hence the "corn waffle"
