In the US military, medical personnel prescribed motrin (ibuprofen) frequently and in large doses for any number of injuries or ailments. In the late 1980's and early 1990's before the generic version became available it was so popular that it accounted for almost 50% of military pharmacy prescriptions. The drug was coined the name "Vitamin M" due to its high number of prescriptions for US soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines.
Hey Boats, what did doc give you for your hurt knee?
He gave me light duty for a week, told me to ice it for 20 minutes 3 times a day, and take Vitamin M for 2 weeks.

L & M, usually capitalized but not always, is a sign-off in an e-mail wishing the person you are e-mailing Love and Mercy. It originated from the message board on the web site for Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys where people would write their messages and then sign it with Love and Mercy, eventually abreviating it to L & M. It refers and pays homage to Brian Wilson's song of the same name off of his 1988 self titled, critically acclaimed album on Warner Bros. Records.
You are so right, listening to Brian sing "Surf's up" acapella, just him and his piano, on you tube was truly like a genuine religious experience. He is undeniably an angel sent from heaven~one of God's most beautiful gifts to us all...
