Communal showers are a single group of showers put together in one room or area. They are typically used in locker rooms, schools, prisons, swimming pools and barracks. Different variations exist, but a typical setup involves a row of showers heads along a wall. Communal showers are designed to accommodate multiple people showering at the same time, so efficiency and utility are the main focus, and modesty is not a consideration. They are designed with few to no privacy accommodations, typically featuring partitions at the most, but otherwise they are open and are meant to have multiple people showering in the nude. They are most commonly only in facilities where there’s no mixing of the sexes, but it’s not unheard of for them to be used by both sexes simultaneously. Historically they are more common and prevalent as a norm in facilities used by men, and less common in facilities used by women.
After hockey practice, the team stripped out of their sweaty gear and got into the communal showers to wash off the sweat and grime, nude as hell.

Get the communikate mug.A system where the central political and economic unit is the commune—a self-governing community that collectively manages its resources and social life. Communes federate with each other for larger projects. This model is deeply associated with anarchist and utopian socialist thought, envisioning a confederation of autonomous, directly democratic communities replacing the nation-state.
Example: The Paris Commune of 1871, though brief, was the iconic attempt at Communal Democracy. Paris was reorganized into a federation of wards, each with its own assembly, recallable delegates, and integrated military and administrative functions, aiming to create a decentralized republic of communes across France.

Get the Communal Democracy mug.The study of animal behavior that prioritizes the community or group as the fundamental unit of analysis, rather than the individual. Where a standard ethologist might ask how a specific bird learns its song, a communitarian ethologist asks how that song functions to maintain the cohesion and identity of the entire flock. It emphasizes belonging, shared rituals, and the ways individuals sacrifice personal interests for the stability and continuity of the collective.
Example: "The way the meerkats posted sentries while others fed wasn't just altruism; from a communitarian ethology perspective, it was the community maintaining its own defensive infrastructure."
