One member of each group is usually actually doing an exercise or lift while the others stand around and chat while comparing themselves in the mirrors. After 20 minutes - they rotate which person is using the weights/machine. After two hours the average number of lifts performed by each person averages at about 6.

A: Did you get a lift in at the gym last night?
B: I tried but it was a tool shed so I had to wait forever for machines to open up.

A: Great, the lifting area looks like a complete tool shed today, maybe we should wait to lift until later.

Tool-shed negroes are rare and generational. They usually have polarizing personalities and are of the intellectual/creative/free-spirited type (a lá James Baldwin, Michelle Obama, Kanye West et al.)
