short for “laughing out loud” but sometimes people use it when they don’t even laugh lol. Also your mom could think that it means “lots of love”.

For all y'all adults out there lol does not mean "lots of love" it means LAUGHING OUT LOUD. So when your mom dies don't send your kids the text: "hey hun grandma just died lol : '(" NOT THAT HARD!!!
