When news outlets throw out every nugget of information they have, no matter how insignificant, during a national tragedy to garner traffic.
The news did a three page story on that spree killer’s green shirt. Straight up tragedy mining.

feature mining

Adding features to software by finding them buried in an epically large code base. Typically sitting unused.
Fixing that error on the home page added a shiny graph.?
Where did that come from?
That code has been there for years?

Poo mining

What is poo mining, I hear you ask with great interest? It is another name for anal sex. The reasoning being that:
- It involves a deep, dark hole
- It involves a shaft
- There certainly isn't any gold to be found in the cavities of this mine
- If you put a canary in there it would almost certainly die from the fumes
See you later lads, I'm off poo mining.

mining for emeralds

The extracting of a person's nasal mucus (UK term bogeys - referred as 'boogers' in the US) from one's nasal passages. The term 'mining for emeralds' came about due to the nasal materials' similarity in colour to the emerald jewel.
1. "Oops, nearly got caught mining for emeralds there!"
2. "Urgh, have you seen the bog - someone's been mining for emeralds all across the wall!"
