It is caused by trauma and characterized by moodswings, an influenced ego, need for validation, little to no empathy and self serving behaviors. Narcissistic people, or narcissists, are often believed to be inherently abusive, but this is not true. Narcissists are mentally ill and traumatized, not abusers.
