Vice Signaling

The opposite of Virtue Signaling. Instead of boasting about good thoughts and deeds, they brag about bad ones.

People may Vice Signal as a means to seem cool and edgy. Functioning as a “pick me” technique in conversations. It may also be used to one-up another persons statement.

Examples of Vice Signaling

*baby cries while being held*
“This baby doesn’t like me… it’s ok, I used to be a piece of shit. I’m not worried about it though, I don’t give a shit!”

“Oh you wake up at 5am? Hahaha, I’m never up earlier than 10am. Loser”

“Yeah I’ve done 10x whatever drug was just mentioned it was craaaayyyyzzzzyy”

turn signal that annoyingly stays on in the car ahead of you.

The idiot ahead of me still has his turnt signal on after making the right turn.

Empty Signalling

A term used when you want to virtue signal that somebody's else's virtue signalling isn't as good as your virtue signalling for unspecific reasons.

A way for low level influencers to attempt to move up the food chain by trying to discredit influencers more popular than themselves.

Instagram Wannabe Influencer: Posting a black square on #BlackOutTuesday is empty signalling. Let me now make 3 posts about why drawing attention to this issue I pretend to care about is bad because you did it in a way different from me, allowing me to be the number one virtue signaller and attention whore when really we should focusing on ways to stop police brutality against minorities.
