This is not to be confused with Shel Silverstein's "Cake Eating Snake" which contains no hyphen and from a grammatical perspective is unclear if the Cake eats Snakes or vice-versa.

Faking the Snake

To add in a small specific detail into a lie in order to make your lie seem more convincing.

I thought the story he was telling was legitimate, then he added some random useless information to make the story seem more believable, then I knew he was faking the snake.
