He is 'The Chosen One' of the jedi prophecy, Anakin defied the jedi code by following his heart and marrying his true love the beautiful Padme Amidala, which eventually led to him becoming Darth Vader. It was Anakin's love for Padme and his fear of losing her that caused him to become the apprentice of Darth Sidious otherwise known as Palpatine or the Emperor. His attempt however proved to be in vain when due to Anakins turn to the darkside Padme died of a broken heart in child birth just as she had in Anakin's dream but not before giving birth to Luke and Leia Skywalker and telling Obi Wan that she believed there was 'still good in him'. Anakin was burned on the planet Mustafar which caused him to become more machine than man and it was believed that the true Anakin was lost forever. It was Anakins love for Luke which in the end redeemed his soul when he destroyed the Emperor also destroying himself. This brought the force back into balance and Anakin fulfilled his true destiny of being the Chosen One.Anakin was restored to his youth as a force ghost and was reunited with his true love in the netherworld of the force.

Luke Skywalker: It is the name of your true self. You've only forgotten. I know there is good in you.
