Emo bands are bands that express emotions or feelings through their music, they are not people who sit around crying and slitting wrists like a lot of narrow minded people think. Get the emo bashing mug.Emo is a term currently used to refer to a subculture of young people (generally teenagers) who wear dark clothing and act in a melodramatic manner. They tend to wear tight clothes, which are usually black. Both male and females will complain about their lives and their families, even if there is really nothing wrong. They will often claim that their parents hate them, even if their parents are actually very caring. They tend to be immature, since their melodramatic demeanor is usually the teen manifestation of brattiness.
The easiest way to reverse this behavior is simply not to put up with it, and to point out their bratty attitude to them (see example 1). It is important to provide the emo kid with both reassurance (see example 2), and tough love (see example 3) It is also important that you ignore any attention-seeking behavior.
The biggest problem with emo kids is that they emulate kids with depression, which makes it harder for the kids with actual problems to get help.Many emo kids write suicide poems for the attention, and as a result it becomes harder to spot the kids who are actually contemplating suicide.

Emo Goth or Emo-Goth (other variations include Gothmo, Gothymo, Emoth and Emothic) Basically a cross between the subcultures of Emo and Goth, generally having dark views and opinions, being open to a variety of things, not being afraid of others differences and being in touch with their emotional side.
Personality: Tends to have a darker view of things in life, typically in art, clothing, poetry, and music. Tend to be very intelligent and analytical, but also very in touch with their feelings and emotions. Generally kind and honest and very open and expressive, although most have some secrets as well as others. May have any sexual orientation. Typically very romantic. May often appear sad, gloomy or depressed. Most are not like this however. On occasion they are depressed, generally as a reaction to something not-so-great that occurred in their lives. Some share the loving approachable characteristic of the Emo subculture. May possess a fascination with Death, spirituality, religion, vampires, etc., generally associated with the Goth subculture. Most possess a general spirit of defiance against conformity. Many don't care what the rest of the world thinks about them and don't. Most are not afraid to cry and dont see crying as weakness. Some may have a potential towards self-mutilation or suicide, but this is generally more prevalent amongst the posers of this culture.

It's not screaming and all of that. Emo is short for emotional, and emo music is emotional music, you dolt. Emo music is NOT punk rock or metal, nor even close to that. My sister claims that Escape the Fate is emo. No, it's not emo, but it's punk rock. Everyone that thinks Bullet for my Valentine, Blood on the Dance Floor, etc is emo, please go do us all a favor and go learn what emo music really is.
Also, if you claim your emo when you aren't even emotional, you are scene. Go learn something rather than being a stereotype.
