A vertical week off is a block of five to seven days of vacation occurring every seven days in a consecutive series of weeks, rather than the five to seven days occurring consecutively in the same week, or a horizontal week. The distinction is evident from the direction taken by selecting, with pencil, pen or mouse, the days of choice from a spreadsheet or paper calendar.

Clerk said: “It’s a Vertical Week Off so the in-box won’t get full.”
I said: “I hope you aren’t planning to rent a vacation retreat with that vertical week schedule. Maybe you could just take the work with you.”
