A phony term that allows for too many people to cling to a phony, cardboard image instead of being themselves.

Get the Street smartmug. A softer or more neutral term for a criminal street gang. People also say “street crew” or “neighborhood crew.” It usually refers to a local set of mostly young members (ages 18–25) involved in group street activity — tagging, hanging out, hustling, repping their area, or functioning like a tight-knit street family.
Local Reporter: “Would you call these guys tagging up the neighborhood a gang, Captain?”
Police Captain: “No, we don’t consider them an organized street gang. We haven’t confirmed any violent incidents or arrests — we classify them as an informal street group. Potential for conflict, but not structured.”
