The Japanese tern for "nerd" (not to be confused with "wibu, weaboo"), where "nerd" means someone who shows much interest on one particular topic, hence more knowledge on that particular topic compared to most other topics

My friend is a total otaku; he spends all his free time watching anime and collecting figurines, living and breathing Japanese pop culture.
