Weed Emo is defined by its pop songwriting and structures while still retaining the unclean vocals, mathy guitars, and DIY production of Midwest Emo. Weed Emo also deals with lighter themes then most underground emo bands. Instead of writing about loneliness or depression, Weed Emo bands may write about romance and breakups, nostalgia, friendships, getting older, etc. Songs also commonly reference both geek and stoner culture (hence the name). Weed Emo is generally seen as a more mainstream friendly (or poseur depending on who you ask) offshoot of modern emo.
