academic phoenix

An academic phoenix is a person who will crash and burn their grades for the current semester, with the hope of doing better in the next. "Pulling an academic phoenix" is risky, and is widely regarded as "a bad fucking move" as it can easily destroy your chances of getting scholarships if done wrong.

To be an academic phoenix, you have to be able to pull your grades back from the depths of hell. Otherwise, you'd just be a failure.

"Alright, I won't be able to finish my project in time. Guess I'll just be an academic phoenix."
"Dude, just stop being lazy and do your damn project."

Academic Weapon

That one essay based student with a traumatic villain origin story that is either really straight or really fruity, probably the latter because the best ones tend to study English. They usually have a bunch of younger siblings and/or cousins they have to look after and explain stuff to, but they somehow still get killer grades and a shoutout in every assembly for giving off teacher vibes.

Eleni in my English class is an academic weapon.

Academic Comeback

When you have a low grade at the start/middle of a term or semester but get it high at the end

Jerry: Holy shit Mark, you have an F in this class, you can't stay in honor roll.

Mark: Don't worry I'm an academic comeback specialist

Jerry: How is your grade after that exam?

Mark: Went from a 34% to an 81%, told you I'm an academic comeback master

Misguided Academic

An academic or a scholar that still maintains their ability to think critically and form informed opinions on topics within their field without the indulgence of “the company line “ or narrative that is in the mainstream. Note: these opinions are still fact based.

I heard that my professor was a misguided academic because she has first hand expertise unlike Bob on Twitter.
