Get the Alright, Ianmug. A term used by English folk who surround themselves in football culture. "Alright" shortened from "all right" is a term that can be used in many different contexts and as an alternative word to "hello".
The term is often used by those with low cognitive IQ scores and lower level of intelligence. Legend says "Alright" was the first English word spoken just years prior of the stone age.

Get the Alright buddymug. A word said to another person when you're pretending to be interested in what they're saying, whereas really you couldn't care less.
"I went to a football match for the first time in years yesterday"
"Alright"
"Yeah, it was amazing. My team scored THREE goals, they really beat the other team up!"
"Aaallllright"
"Yeah, I loved it. Definitely going to another one soon."
*no response*

Get the alrightmug. 1) A common UK greeting synonymous with hello or yo. Similar to how's it goin? or what's up? Though often inflected with an upspeak, suggesting a response is required. It isn't necessarily, and if the person then wants to talk about what so-and-so said to so-and-so near the printer today. It can be downright unwanted!
2) A genuine concern for a persons well-being where a response is required. The person could be recently bereaved or long since last seen.
Context is important. If the person was seen half an hour ago and there's no reason to think they're in any distress, it's a greeting. When confronting an injured person, it requires a response.
