It usually entails mental gymnastics and arithmetic to discount specific elements of statistics in order to prove a false, larger point that nothing untoward is going on.

Ramsey: The factual statistic is that 52% of marriages end in divorce. But, if you take out single mothers, people over 22, high school marriages, people with degrees, people earning less than $50,000, people who attend a house of worship, people who aren't from a divorced background; about 90% of marriages DO WORK.
