Antarctica is an extremely cold place, and quite possibly the most remote area on Earth. During the Summer (December-February, in the Southern Hemisphere) and Winter (June-August), the continent experiences 24 hours a day of sunlight (midnight sun) and darkness (polar night), respectively.
Penguins and orcas live in Antarctica. The city of Ushuaia, Argentina is the closest city to the Antarctic peninsula.
