short yardage package

A group of three or more women who weigh more than 250 pounds each. This a reference to American football where lighter offensive players are replaced by heavier ones to push the defense back to gain two or fewer yards. For example, two wide receivers and a slot back are replaced by a much heavier squad of two tight ends and a fullback.
"Did you see the short yardage package at the custard shop? Those three women could push the Raven's defense back six yards!"
"We better get to the all you can eat buffet before the Rushie and her two friends get there. That short yardage package will eat up everything"

hard yards

Difficult, irksome, tedious, boring and unglamorous work or effort needed to achieve success in a business venture, sport or study.

Used in speech as "doing the hard yards" or "putting in the hard yards".

Originated in Australia - New Zealand either in farming or rugby. To create a profitable farm it is necessary to "put in the hard yards" by clearing the land etc. In rugby, to score a try it is necessary for other team members "do the hard yards" by bringing the ball up the field against the opposition's best and brutal efforts so as to create a scoring opportunity
If you want to get fit, lose weight and have a chance to be picked for the team, you need to put in the hard yards down at the gym and at training.

Whole nine yards

Phrase equivalent to "Everything that is available." Has nothing to do with football. In fact, the phrase comes from the fact that fighter planes are equipped with belt-fed machine guns. When the belts are laid out before loading, they measure nine yards in length. If a pilot were to empty his plane's guns into a target, he'd be giving it the "whole nine yards."
