The practice of pre-reading a received message on your phone by pressing the icon on the lockscreen or sliding the notification bar enough to read the message to decide if it is worth replying now or not, but without the other person seeing a read receipt, and so taking a peek at the message "on the sly".

On receiving a text, Tom always liked to first take a slypeek because he wanted to give the impression that he was a busy man and wasn't always available, despite not having a job and permanently having his phone in his pocket.
