Retrosave

Saving a file, document or other electronic format back to an previous version of that program. This feature is usually accessed via the "Save as" prompt in most applications.

(Origins- retro and save: "Retro-pertaining to a style of an earlier time", "Save-to electronically copy a file from RAM onto disk or other storage medium)

"I do not have Photoshop CS3, so I can not open your .PSD. Can you retrosave it to Photoshop 7?"

"The file '_____.docx' can not be opened as you do not have the latest version of MS Office. Please have the sender Retrosave it to an earlier version of MS Word."

retrospectacles

The (usually rose-colored) glasses which one views the past. Viewing through retrospectacles causes one to overlook past problems or disasters and remember only the good aspects. Thus, retrospectacles are often the device which allows one to intentionally repeat the same ill-advised course of action.

Adam: "I know she cheated on me the last 5 times we got together, but we had some really good times too. Maybe this time will be different, I think I'll give her a call"

Bob: "Adam you idiot, put down the phone and take off your retrospectacles"

Retroid

Slang. Applied to devotees to vintage/retro technology, fashion, movies, books, or music. Retroids believe that there are no new ideas; rather, that old ideas get re-contextualized. This re-contextualization, Retroids argue, is proof that the old idea was not fully understood or realized in the first place. The past echoes in our minds, a whisper we can't quite understand; the human brain develops now at a higher rate than the rate at which human beings are able to comprehend the information that the brain processes and stores, an imbalance responsible for the odd incongruities and general discord of modern life. This idea draws in no small part from Arthur Koestler's views in his book "The Ghost in the Machine," in which the author posits that as the human brain has grown, it has built upon earlier, more primitive brain structures, and that these are the "ghost in the machine" of the title. By re-examining discarded ideas and technologies, Retroids repair the gaps and glitches in present life.

Fueled by renewed rumors that Kurt Cobain had been murdered, retroids absorbed Nirvana's music in search of clues in the lyrics.
