haole

The word haole when used on the islands has many different meanings, historically accurate or not. It is generally accepted as 'white person' among Caucasians, but most see it as foreigner or outsider. It is a widely accepted exclusionary word based on race, justified or not.

haole

Refrence from Hawai'i meaning foreigner. This can be anyone who is not local meaning people from the mainland, tourists, or just white people. Mostly used as a term for a white person, but can mean anyone foreign.

Sometimes used as a deragotory term against white people.
Originated from Hawai'i as a term for foreigners due to the fact that they refused to perform the ritual of sharing their mana through their breath, hence "no breath" definition.

Other times it can be used just for refrence to white people.
Deragotory: Fuckin haoles taking over.
Casual: Yea, had 2 hawaiians and one thick haole guy coming at me.

haole

"Haole" just means "foreigner." In modern usage, it's come to mean "white person." But it's a generic term -- neither positive or negative in connotation. The word itself is NOT derogatory:

"There were 5 haoles at the corner" means "There were 5 caucasians at the corner." Nothing more. Nothing derogatory.

But like any other noun, it can attract good adjectives ("The NICE haole lady gave me this apple") or bad adjectives ("The FUCKING haole lady gave me the finger"). It's the adjective, not the word, that denotes whether it's derogatory.

Unfortunately, there are certain oversensitive people in this life who always need to feel like victims and always need to whine about something even when there's nothing to whine about. They want everyone to think they're being persecuted. White people persecuted? C'mon, get real. As my haole golf buddy likes to say, that's why the word "fucking" usually comes before the word "haole."

It's all about context:
The 5 men at the bus stop were haole.
That nice haole boy next door helped me carry these in.
The loud haole who sits next to me at work just can't seem to shut the hell up.
That fucking haole is always whining about being called haole.

Haole

A word for outsiders or more often "white" .

There are some over sensitive "local" types who get off on acting like a victim where they whine about their life when they have nothing really to complain about and they decide to take it out on foreigners due to xenophobia and outright racism. So haole is used by victim mentality locals who want to blame all outsiders for their problems in life instead of taking personal responsibility for themselves. You will see this expressed in the casual context definitions where the word "haole" is used in a "derogatory" way by locals who mistakenly delude themselves into believing Hawaii is still a kingdom when in fact it is a U.S. STATE.
"Get off the fucking island you fucking haole"

"Da bruddahs in Waipio will "take care of" that fucking haole. He better watch his ass after dark.
