Observation/Question, Research, Hypothesis, and Testing all belong in the "fuck around" category.
Analyzing data and Recording your testing

Person 1: Hey, you! Fuck you!

Person 2: *Question* Can I kick this guys ass?

*Research* He's taller than me and seemingly works out, but only has one arm.

*Hypothesis* I can kick this guys ass.

Let's fuck around and find out!

*Testing* I will try and kick his ass

Person 1: *kicks person 2's ass*

Person 2: *Analysis* I could not kick his ass

*Recording* My W/L ratio is now 3-48

Past tense version: Fucked around and found out.

1. When a person or people do or are going to do something idiotic or dangerous that will lead undoubtedly to consequences.

2. A threat. When someone is warning another that if they do a certain thing (e.g. Punching the person) they will attack them physically.

1. Rachel decided to poke a sleeping bear with a stick, the bear woke up and mauled her. She fucked around and found out.

2. Jake and Barry are arguing with each other, Barry readies his fist as if going to punch Jake. Jake looks him in the eyes and says "You want to Fuck around and find out?"
Barry punches Jake, Jake proceeds to beat up Barry.

It's a preamble to an ass beating. Widely used by Southern and Northern African Americans. My Grandad who was in his late 80's back in the 70's used to say it to us kids when we were misbehaving.
