Attention whores. Kids and young adults who really don't have any actual problems, and instead decide to use their creativity, or lack thereof, to craft false problems.
Emo kids are mostly seen with acoustic guitars and My Chemical Romance attire, as well as black hair that simply screams "kick me in the balls as hard as you can".
High-pitch nasally voice can often be heard uttering the words "You just don't understand", followed by the sound of slamming door, then muffled whimpering as the individual proceeds to scratch their wrist, hoping you'll take notice of their weak and futile efforts to portray suicide and/or self-mutilation.
But most notably, Emos keep records of thier so-called "problems" in diaries. These records mostly include pointless whiny rants:

"Dear Diary, those stupid jocks at school think I'm gay. Why can't they understand that heterosexual boys like me just like to kiss other heterosexual boys once in a while. They're so mean, and it depresses me... They say I'm Emo, even though I'm just misunderstood."
*sniff* *scratch*
"They just don't understand"
"And Karen dumped me today. She says I'm the perfect guy, and that I'm always there for her, just like when her Chimichangas were too cold, and she ended up cutting her wrist out of shear depression. She says it's not me, it's her. She says I'm too good for her. I love her so much... I think I'll express my undying love for her by throwing my pillows and crying... and perhaps I'll write a love song and sing it off-key..."

Emo stands for 'emotional' and it shows that you're not afraid to hide your feelings. A lot of the reviews I've read are extremely negative about emos. I find this extremely annoying and prejudiced, I mean, how can they say that when they don't even know the person? The situation is generally "Oh, look its an emo, get her/him" and then you're in extreme pain even before youve had time to hitch up your trousers to run for it. Believe me, emos don't dress the way they dress for attention-they express how they hurt inside. (And the fringe is probably to hide the black eye from yet another beat-up)
Why, why, why do emos cause such an effect on people? What have they ever done to THEM? And just what is the point of hating ALL emos?
Emo bands are widely feared/hated too, and some newspapers even tried to turn parents against their own children, sying 'oh emo this and emos that' but emo doesnt really have anything to DO with self harm. Self harm is not a trend or a style-its a disorder. (listen to My Cheical Romance-Its not a fasion statement, its a deathwish)

a) short for the term emotional...in a musical sense
b) music derived in the 80's... with such bands as Rites of Spring, Texas is the Reason, and more.
c) can be used to describe a person who listens to emo, can relate to most of it and then cry because they can relate to it and not just because its emo.
emo music is not punk.
emo music usually contains lyrics which have a desperate side to them. written usually about a past girlfriend or experience.

A softer genre of rock music that is marked by its excessively melancholy trappings. This extends to the heavily overwrought song lyrics, the persistence of the "Emo Kids" to appear brooding, mysterious and tortured, and the bands' very names.
"Emo Kids" are, to put it bluntly, constantly in the pursuit of the complete self-obliteration of any sort of perspective. Evident from the idolized paragons of emo culture(songs, that is) Emo kids dwell incessantly upon their emotions, usually of love, regret, heartbreak, and/or internal torment. To be frank, it seems that they simply cannot concentrate on anything other than themselves, while failing to realize that their dilemmas are not, in fact, very unique, and that everyone else in the world learns to deal with life...without forcing themselves to conform to some sickening subculture that only breeds self-imposed misery.
Which leads us into the next aspect of the emo lifestyle--the cult of emotional angst. Emo Kids are known to be cutters, which, sadly, has cheapened such a dangerous habit. Before, shall we say, the Emo Era, cutting was not flung around as "street cred," of sorts, it was (and still is, to those who truly suffer from it) a psychological problem that needed addressing. However, the emo culture has warped this harmful practice into something rather glamourous, a sort of rite of passage. This, along with many other rituals, are self-inflicted, for the most part--that is, Emo Kids brainswash themselves into believing they are deep, dark, and mysterious because they cut themselves/write, for the most part, amateurish poetry/take trite, black-and-white photographs to put on myspace/etc.
Emo Kids are nearly always teenagers, and though they do not like to admit, fill the stereotype of self-possessed adolescents to a tee. Frankly, Emo is a phase--a highly annoying one, but a phase nonetheless.

Emo is marked by an highly aesthetic element as well--tight pants, band T-shirts, argyle, and black-rimmed glasses are commonplace.

A strange breed of human that can be identified by stupid haircuts, suicidal tendencies, constant whining, the wearing of tight pants, and usually no mate. Because of this, scientists believe that most males in this species lack reproductive organs.
