It originates from Death Cab for Cutie’s “Thank you for today” (Gold Rush) paying homage to the song of the same name (Gold Rush) and popularised on the r/deathcircleforjerk subreddit (Gold Rush).

Gold Smurf

When someone makes a smurf (Secondary Account) to win games in any Online PvP Videogame (e.g. League of Legends, Apex Legends etc.) to have easier games or to win more games, but isn't actually much better than the elo of their main account.

Person 1: "That account has a 60% winrate."
Person 2: "Don't worry, they're propably just a gold smurf. Their winrate isn't even that high!"
