A saying from the time of the English / French wars, when English prisoners of war escaped from the prison camp without say hello.
The English use this saying like this: He stepped in French.

The Gillie 2-Step is a dance move of sorts which consists of a repetitive action of 2 moves of the feet. It is reserved for natives of Gilmerton more commonly known as Gillie Radges. It tends to be practiced at the end of the night when the bar/clubs in Gilmerton close as it is felt that is the best time to show off the Gillie 2-Step moves.
The majority of Gillie Radges have two left feet and are therefore partial to the Gillie 2-Step, especially after sinking a ton of drink.
The Gillie 2-Step can also be utilised when crossing a busy road to avoid oncoming traffic and tends to be more effective than the hop, skip and a jump action.

J Stepping is when you step on someone’s shoes. Originally, J Stepping meant stepping on someone’s Jordan’s, but it evolved into stepping on any kind of shoe.
