A practice of inserting other users' names into one's messages on IRC with the purpose of attracting their attention. Most IRC clients display a pop-up and/or highlight the chat window button in the taskbar whenever someone mentions their name.

An attempt at name dropping which fails because the person mentioned is so obscure that no one knows who they are or so obnoxious that no one would want to know them.

Person A: I was chatting to Enda last week and he said...
Person B: Enda who?
Person A: Enda Penny, the Deputy Vice Chairman of the Campaign for the Preservation of Blue Shirts
Person B: Dude, you are so name flopping!

grey name

commonly found in youtuber Linkuru's discord server (uru crew) they are a species of human with no roles. many people seem to dislike most grey names as they have annoying traits and no one knows them. however, the word grey name has turned into an insult recently with grey name people often being judged and ignored. grey names often complain about their treatment which spurs even more harsh treatment. however a small percentage of grey names overcome their harsh enviroments and become level 5 brown names.
