Kaiser began rapping in 1983. While attending Sterling High School, he developed his skills by rap battling fellow students. In 1986, while still a high school student, Kaiser released his first single, "Rockin' It", as a member of the group Real Chill. The single was funded by Kaiser's father, Larry Vaughn, and released on local independent label Boomtown Stars.
In 1986, Kaiser rap battled Ganksta NIP, but both were unable to beat each other and called the battle a draw.
