A country that is the bridge that connects Europe and Asia, and lays in Anatolia. Its descendant is the great Ottoman Empire, and when it was falling apart, the country was liberalized to be the Turkish Republic by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, also known as M. Kemal Pasha. The Turkish version of the country name is “Türkiye” and it is debated in Turkey that the English version should be transformed into “Turkiye” because of the exact word for the bird type, “turkey”, and its offence to some Turkish people.
Turkey isn’t just kebab and turkish delight with a bunch of Ottoman people, it is a European and modern country with many problems because of its jeopolitical position.
Once an example of secular democracy in the Middle East, Turkey is now heading towards a theocracy thanks to the election of Erdogan who symphasises with the terrorist group Hamas that wants an Islamic state in Palestine and to eradicate Israel.
Turkey used to be a progressive country and a role model for the entire region, but since Erdogan became president, it is becoming more religious and conservative.
