To Jump one's "gate" is to "try them" essentially, based on the assumption that the target, or person in question, cannot retaliate or will not retaliate for said action or offense; due to lack of power or ability to do so.

Feeling Gated

The specific physical and psychological sensation of anxiety or defensiveness caused by someone invading your personal space.

Distinct from the gaming definition (which means being blocked from moving forward), this context refers to boundaries being forced INWARD. It describes the moment you feel "penned in" or "corralled" because another person is hovering, looming, or standing uncomfortably close, forcing you to mentally or physically "close the gate" to protect your boundaries.

Also used as a verb ("Stop gating me") to tell someone they are encroaching on your personal bubble.

Person A: "Why did you step back?" Person B: "You were standing right over my shoulder and I started feeling gated."

Person A: "My bad, I didn't realize I was gating you.
